| I'm working with a TT engine of which I do not know the history. I have it running although with zero oil pressure. I have now pulled the oil pan as it appears to have been dented and found the pickup to be a bit squashed at the opening and a matching engraving in the bottom of the inside of the pan. While I'm sure this was the cause of my low oil pressure, I do see some shavings and a few small metal chunks so I would also like to be sure the rod bearings are in good shape. Is it safe to remove the caps to inspect these and potentially just torque them back down if all is well? I'm assuming I should be able to push the rod up into the cylinder to inspect the top half of the bearing. Is there a good way to check over the oil pump while in the car? I can't imagine so, but I figure I may as well check while I'm in here. TIA
